What Is eCommerce?

Source: Investopedia
Electronic commerce or e-commerce (sometimes written as eCommerce) is a business model that lets firms and individuals buy and sell things over the internet. E-commerce operates in all four of the following major market segments:

  • Business to business
  • Business to consumer
  • Consumer to consumer
  • Consumer to business

In other words: eCommerce does not only contain physical products, but also the online sales of services and subscriptions for instance. A hair dresser might be looking into an online platform to have customers pay online for a service, or a brick-and-mortar store might be looking for avenues to sell their physical products online. Ecommerce is very broad. In general: when there is something to sell and customers can pay online than you can most likely apply for the online business grant.
