21 very helpful business name generator tools

With so many registered (domain) names, finding the perfect name for your business can be challenging. Of course you want the domain name as short as possible and the name has to reflect your business. Believe me, I’ve been there; brainstorming until late in the evening, asking friends and family for their honest opinion, writing down names, combining existing names, take words apart and mold them together to create a new word.

Fortunately there’s a good selection of online domain name generators available. Some allow you to enter just one word, two words or no word at all to generate a list with (random) generated business names. Most results include a domain availability check, so you can register the name right away if its to your liking.

My advice is to try create a domain name that is easy to remember and contains no more than three words. These domain name generators, listed in random order, will be very helpful in your research:

1. Panabee

Panabee allows you to enter one or two keywords for your business and with this the form creates a list with available and not available domain names. If the main domain is not available, it will give you a link to the godaddy website to check if the domain is available with a different extension. Panabee.com

2. Domize

Unlike Panabee, this domain name generator doesn’t give you any extra letters. It will generate words by scrambling the letters of the word you entered. When available, you’ll get the option to purchase the domain name immediately. It is also possible to search premium domains. This means you can purchase an existing domain that is not used anymore. Expect to pay a few hundred to a few thousand dollars for a premium domain. Domize.com

3. Namestation

Before you can do a search, you have to register an account with namestation or login with Facebook. After logging in you’ll have a good selection of options. The search engine also generates a list with synonyms, so if the first result wasn’t successful, you can easily switch to an alternative word. The free subscription is limited to a certain amount of search queries. Namestation.com

4. NameThingy

Not really a search engine, but a pretty cool (and addictive) name generator. When you enter the website, it will already start generating random two word name combinations. I came across some interesting combinations and clicking on the suggested name will show if it is available for domain registration. Edited Nov 02-2016: link not working anymore.

5. Domain Puzzler

This name generator has four different search methods: 1. Easy 2. Advanced 3. Magic 4. Page Rank. The easy method combines the words you entered, the advanced method gives you a third word alternative, the magic method adds a system generated word to your search query and the page rank method was a bit of a mystery to me. The last one didn’t seem to work for me. Domainpuzzler.com

Looka Business Name Generator

Wordoid is a name generator that allows you to enter your own words, set a limit to the length of the domain name and combines this with wordoids. Another option is to completely rely on wordoid, without a focus keyword. Wordoids are made up words, so the outcome is in most cases original. You’ll know immediately if the suggested business name is available for domain registration. Wordoid.com

8. Bust a Name

This business name tool consists of three result screens. You have to keep adding words into the search box, so that the name generator can combine these words and create business names. You can also save domain names to review later. Bustaname.com

A nice tool, but with limited features for the free account. Edited Nov 02-2016: link not working anymore.

10. LeanDomainSearch

When you open the LeanDomainSearch website you are welcomed with a search box. After submitting your search query, you’ll be presented with the results.
